
STATE STREET RESEARCH FUNDS ADDED TO $2 BILLION RETIREMENT PLAN
BOSTON, MA, March 23, 2001- State Street Research & Management Company
announced today that Safeway Inc. has added State Street Research Aurora
Fund to its employees' 401(k) plan. Safeway selected State Street Research
Aurora Fund as an investment option in its $2 billion 401(k) platform
administered by Howard Johnson &Co., the plan's recordkeeper. State Street
Research Aurora Fund is the onlysmall-cap value fund offered through the
plan, which has more than 100,000
eligible participants.
Safeway Inc., headquartered in Pleasanton, California, is one of the largest
food and drug retailers in North America. At the end of December 2000, the
company operated 1,688 stores in the Western, Southwestern, Rocky Mountain,
Midwestern and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States and in Western
Canada.
