MARY RUTH MORAN JOINS STATE STREET RESEARCH TO LEAD OPERATIONS EFFORTS



BOSTON, MA, October 9, 2001-State Street Research & Management Company is pleased to announce that Mary Ruth Moran joined the firm this week as Executive Vice President, Head of Information Systems and Investment Administration & Operations, and member of the firm's Management Committee. Richard S. Davis, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Boston-based financial services firm, made the announcement.

"Mary Ruth is an experienced leader with a demonstrated command of technology, operations and marketing. She will be an invaluable contributor to our efforts and we are pleased to welcome someone of this caliber to State Street Research," stated Davis.

Most recently, Mary Ruth, 42, was President and Chief Executive Officer of Precipio Partners, a management consulting firm she founded in 1998. Prior to this, Mary Ruth was Senior Vice President and Group Director for Strategic Interactive Group, where she led the implementation of American Express's global internet strategy. For the previous 15 years, she held product management, marketing and electronic development roles at Fidelity Investments and Bank of New England Corporation. Mary Ruth is a graduate of Harvard Business School and Wellesley College.
